Acne is a common skin disease. Most of us have to suffer from this disorder at some point of our lifetime. There are two varieties of Acne- Acne vulgaris and Acne rosacea. The first one usually appears in teenagers and the later affects predominantly the middle age group.
Both the form leaves some amount of skin discoloration to the site it develops.
By taking these simple measures, you can minimize the amount of the scar they leave.

1. Clean the area three times a day with a mild non detergent cleanser :
Thoroughly clean your face using only your tip of the finger, including your throat, neck, and in front of and behind the ears. Do not use any other substances except fingertips. Use a mild foaming cleanser. And be sure of that it is non-detergent based. If you notice any reddish, itchy area, choose a cleanser containing Benzoyl peroxide. After cleaning, wash with water thoroughly. Then repeat the procedure.

2. Use a toner or astringent :
Apply skin toner to a piece of cotton and gently glide over the area you have just cleansed. It will remove any cleanser residue, and oil. If your skin is extremely dry, go for an alcohol-free toner.

3. Apply medications or creams :
This is the time when you should apply the ointments your doctor may prescribed you. When the toner has dried completely, apply the medicinal cream as directed. Allow the cream absorb completely.

4. Apply an oil-free gel :
Now you can apply any non-allergic oil free gel.

There are some home remedies told by our grannies. It is worthwhile to try it. Following are some preparations that are useful for lowering the pigmentation. These are easy to make and easy to apply.
1. Apply mixture of 1 teaspoon of freshly prepared lemon juice and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder all over the area affected.
2. Make a paste by mixing 3 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply this paste on the affected area. This is also a good alternative.
3. You can apply fresh tomato pulp. The pulp is to be made excluding the skin.
4. Applying garlic paste has the property of lowering the pigmentation.
5. Mixture of Nutmeg powder with un-boiled milk is other alternative.
6. Alternatively, make a paste of orange skin powder with water and apply on affected area. Wash it off thoroughly after half an hour with lukewarm water.
