Do you know whether your skin is acne prone or not?
Acne is of two types- Acne vulgaris and Acne rosacea. They have distinctive property of their own. The first one affects mainly the younger generation and Acne rosacea targets middle age group. We all know there is dissimilarity of the skin conditions between these two groups.
Firstly, let us discuss about the skin conditions of Acne vulgaris:
Mostly, persons with oily skin and those are prone to sweating suffer from acne vulgaris. The main factor of this disease is the augmentation of sebum production by the sebaceous gland present in the superficial part of skin. The secretion of sebum is less in infancy. It is high during puberty, getting its highest level in adults and then gradually decreasing with age. The white heads and black heads form in the hair follicle due to retention of sebum caused by blockage of the follicular openings.
Those persons having oily skin suffer more of this blockage. Dust particles are adhered to oil and deposited. This obstructs the opening of the follicle. Persons suffering from excessive sweating are also prone to acne vulgaris. This condition is called “Seborrhoea”. This is a condition where hyper-secretion of the sebaceous glands of the skin and scalp, causing the skin to become extremely oily. Some hormones increase the secretion of sebum.
Taking the leading role among are androgens. Your diet full of saturated oil also aggravates the condition. In addition, persons having thick skin are acne prone. Thick skin means more sebaceous cells. This will lead to more oil available to the hair follicle.
To counteract, you can take the following five simple measures:
a) Take 2-2.5 liters of water everyday.
b) Take plenty of green leafy vegetables and fruits.
c) Avoid junk food.
d) Do not shampoo daily. Do not use any toiletries that enthusiastically remove oil from your face. There will be rebound production of oil.
e) Wash your face 5-6 times a day with plain water and pat dry with a towel.
Acne rosacea
It is seen mainly in the adults. Person whose skin blushes or flushes are necessarily prone to this disease. It is an inflammatory condition of the skin of the face. Typically, it affects middle-aged women. A facial eruption of bright red papules with surrounding redness crowned by small pus containing areas characterizes this disease. Avoidance of sunlight, hot spicy food, and alcoholic drinks is helpful.
